Disease Paper and Presentation Format
Paper must be typed, single-spaced paper with double space between paragraphs and one-inch margins on all sides. MS Word document if sent as an email attachment. 12 point font. Times New Roman style or equivalent.
Paper must have a minimum three (3) FULL pages (not 2 ¾). This does not include the cover sheet or bibliography pages.
You must have at least three (3) references outside of your textbooks. You may have more than three, but cite ALL references.
- One reference must be from a medical journal.
- One reference must be from googlescholar.com.
- One reference must be from a reputable (e.g., medical school) internet site.
Organization for Disease Paper
Cover Sheet: Title, Date, Course & Section, Name all centered on page.
Introduction: History of disease (when/who discovered, causative agents(s) if any etc.)
Major portion of paper should include:
- Significant history [Hx] who gets disease-> sex, age, race, etc. AND how they get it).
- Clinical signs (disease syndrome, chief complaints)
- Differential diagnosis [DDx] (what other diseases could it be?)
- Diagnostic test done (blood work, radiographs, MRI, etc.) and why. What is a positive or confirming result? Definitive test if any.
- Treatment [Tx] options (types of medication used, etc.)
- Any alternative or complementary therapy that may be done
- Prognosis [Px] (outcome -> disease cured, palliative, fatal)
- Any new research being done on treatment, cure, diagnostics??(may or may not have info)
You may include any drawings, photos, pathology reports, brochures, etc., if it helps. This is extra information and should not be considered as your entire paper.
Conclusion: Nursing care you would give for this patient. Things you would discuss with the patient and/or the family.
Bibliography page: Cited references, using correct format listing in the MLA or APA style format. (This does not count as your third page).
