A review of Figure 7.5 in the text shows that voter turnout in Presidential elections declined through much of the 20th Century. Voter turnout in midterm elections – such as the upcoming 2014 elections – is considerably lower than in Presidential election years.
In an essay, describe the roles that political parties and interest groups play in mobilizing electoral participation in contemporary U.S. society and assess how individual characteristics of voters (such as socioeconomic status), electoral laws, and electoral rules influence voting likelihood.

Comments from the teacher for the last essay.
This essay addresses a range of topics and, as a result, only speaks briefly about what I asked in the prompt. Among other topics, it discusses forms of government, the structure of the federal government, and the checks and balances system. As part of the discussion of the powers of Congress, there is some modest discussion of the enumerated powers of the federal government; this is part of the answer to the question that I asked, but it is not presented in a way suggesting that this is the central focus of your essay. There are parallel discussions of the executive and judicial branches that don’t focus on the question of powers vested in the federal government under the Constitution (what was asked in the prompt). The question of why these powers and not others were vested in the federal government is left completely unaddressed. I see citations to the text (which is good and appropriate for scholarly writing), but I don’t see mention of the lectures. The lectures offered insights to both parts of the prompt. Your thesis is unclear. I believe that it is: “. The powers vested to the federal government had been castigated by the history of the people of U.S. and their diverse culture and need of liberty in every sector led to the imposition of the federal powers as they are today.” Unfortunately, this makes little sense. Please take care craft a thesis that is clear, organizes the various parts of your paper, and speaks to the prompt. I would encourage you to work with the Writing Center. In sum, I would strongly encourage you to review the prompt more carefully for Analytical Essays 2 and 3 and ensure that your answer speaks directly to the questions raised. Please make sure that your answers rely on material from both the text and lectures. Louis DeSipio
