The linear attenuation coefficient:
Calculate the percentage of a beam of 70 keV X-rays absorbed by
i) 1 mm of lead
ii) 1 mm of aluminium
iii) 1 m of air. (Assume air is composed of 80% nitrogen, 20% oxygen and has a density of 1.2 kgm-3.)
b) For each of the materials in a), calculate the HVL for the 70 keV beam.
c) How will your answers to a) and b) be affected if you used the 70 keV beam generated by an X-ray tube rather than a monochromatic beam? Give reasons for your answer.
