Topic: Research
Conducting a successful marketing research project is a complex process. Gathering information can involve many types of data collection including exploratory, secondary, and primary research. However, a research project can be successful only if it focuses on the key issues. Read Case Study 1 again, “Say it Ain’t So! Is This the Real Thing?” in the Zikmund & Babin text. After reviewing this case and the Discussion Board Instructions in the Course Content area, please address the following questions in your posting:
- Was the research approach undertaken by David Ortega valid? What other research approach, based on your studies, might you recommend in this instance to gather valid data, and why?
- Identify 3 restaurants that would be competition for the upscale Smith and Wollensky, and determine through research what the key success factors of upscale restaurants are.
- Based on your findings, would you recommend any additional exploratory or secondary research be conducted by David Ortega before a restaurant is established? Support your recommendations with your research results.

Select Paragraph M2A1 For this part of the assignment, select one paragraph from the body of one of the articles you have chosen to include in your literature search. Paraphrase Paragraph Paraphrase the content from the paragraph you selected. You may want to later include it in the body of your literature review. Include appropriate citations, as necessary. Post Paraphrased Paragraph Post the original paragraph (in quotation marks) and your paraphrasing of the paragraph to the M2: Assignment 1 Discussion Area by Saturday, July 26, 2014.
Selecting Your References M2A2 Along the way in this module you will need to gather a minimum of ten (10) scholarly research articles you plan on using for your final research paper. APA-formatted literature reviews always include a references page. The references page cites every article you have mentioned in your literature review. To view a sample references page, view the sample APA paper in Doc Sharing, visit the www.apastyle.org Web site to view other sample papers, and consult your textbooks. Part I Based on the feedback you received from your peers and your instructor on your research/focal question and your search of the literature, finalize your research question, and submit it on page 1 of your submission. Part II Select at least ten (10) scholarly research articles related to your chosen focal/research question. These should be articles that you intend to review, critique, or include in some other way when writing your literature review/final paper. Create a draft of an APA-formatted references page, including each of the research articles you have selected. Note the following important points: • The references must be in alphabetical order. • References should be double-spaced. • Hanging indents must be used. (The first line of the reference is flushed left to the margin while all subsequent lines of a single reference are indented five spaces from the left-hand margin. Part III Include a title page in APA format with your submission. Submit your paper to the M2: Assignment 2 Dropbox by Wednesday, July 30, 2014.
Research Journal Entry M3A1 You have made significant progress in the prewriting phase of your literature review. In Modules 1 and 2, you selected a focal/research topic and a list of potential references. Now, you have entered into the process of evaluating those references and perhaps seeking more information. You are beginning to sift through your references for common themes that you will use as headings in your literature review paper. According to researchers who have interviewed thousands of college students about the process of gathering information for such papers, there is a great deal of frustration involved in the process. Students describe how difficult it is to get started or to find high quality, relevant, current articles on their chosen topic. Some students have found it helpful to discuss the process with each other, give each other tips, and share their successes and pitfalls with the research process. In the form of a research journal entry, post a description of your efforts so far in the course: 1. Provide a list of your search terms (words or phrases you used when searching in the online library database, on Google Scholar, or on other search engines). 2. Discuss at least three frustrations you have had with the searching process. Be specific. You could describe a specific dead end you faced in a search. Or, if you had difficulty getting started, discuss how you overcame that frustration. What did you do or avoid doing, in order to get past the point of being stuck? 3. Share at least three tips. For example, if you have had successes with the online library or Internet search, what did you do well? Did you find articles using a unique strategy? 4. Did you use a less-reliable Web site, such as Wikipedia, to jump start your search? Why or why not? If you did use it, how did you use it? What information did you gain from using it? Add any other details that would help you describe your experience so far. by Saturday, August 2,
LASA 1: Writing a Brief Draft M3A2 At this point in the course, you have developed a focal question, reviewed articles related to your topic, and have designed an outline of your final paper. Using all of that information, begin the writing process now. Effective writers create a draft of their paper and revise that draft one or more times before producing a final paper. Your draft-writing process begins with this assignment and continues in Module 4. In Module 5, you will submit your final draft of this paper. This assignment requires you to write a draft of the first few pages of your final paper, using current APA standards for editorial style, expression of ideas, and formatting of the text, headings, citations, and references. The following components, each in current APA style, must be included: 1. Title page 2. Running head with page numbers 3. 2-3 pages of the body of the paper. Be sure to: a. Articulate a research question which is specific, researchable, and important to the field. This should be the same focal question you submitted in Module 2. b. Provide an introduction to your paper, introducing your topic and providing an overview of the main points you will discuss in further detail in the final paper. c. Review at least 3 academic references. These should be academic references taken from the list of 10 references you submitted in Module 2. Your review of each source should include the following: i. The main topic ii. The focus or thesis of the journal article iii. The argument the author is making and its relevance to your focal question iv. The type of article—published, original research, meta-analysis, or reflection piece v. The key findings of the study vi. Your opinion about the merits of the study, including future points of interest or research vii. Analysis of how the information/research findings in each article confirm or contradict the findings in the other articles you have chosen. 4. Headings and subheadings organizing the body of the paper 5. References page Submit your paper to the M3: Assignment 2 Dropbox by Wednesday, August 6,
The Big Picture M4A1 The Abstract is a brief summary of the entire research article. It helps us to get a sense of the research question, methods, and findings. Creating an Abstract is often a very helpful exercise for the writer of a literature review, because the Abstract conveys the big picture, so to speak. In the process of writing the Abstract, the writer must develop a big picture idea of their topic, data, and conclusions. Readers benefit greatly from abstracts. They use them to screen articles quickly, while gathering resources for their own projects. They use them to evaluate the strength of the paper, the generalizability of its findings, and the overall argument of its author. In a literature review, a strong Abstract includes the following pieces of information: 1. Your research topic; 2. Your research/focal question; 3. Your hypothesis (what did you guess the answer to the research/focal question would be prior to beginning your research?); 4. A general statement or two about the findings discussed in the articles you’ve reviewed; 5. Your conclusions; 6. Some implications of the findings you’ve described (What do they mean to us or to society?); and 7. What future research needs to be done? The post should be at least 100 words in length and should include all of the above items (#1 through #5). Post your Abstract to the Discussion Area by Saturday, August 9, 2014. Review and respond to at least two your classmates’ posts through Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
Identifying Themes M4A2 Submit the following assignment to the M4: Assignment 2 Dropbox by Wednesday, August 13, 2014. Identifying themes in your literature is very important because it helps you create a scaffold for your literature review. Without knowing themes, patterns, and trends, the literature review usually reads like a meaningless list with no connection between one study and the next. Also, without identification of themes, there is no appreciation of how scholars are actually having a conversation on paper regarding their discoveries. By now you have taken part in multiple exercises and assignments which were intended to assist you in clarifying the themes you will pull together in and through your literature review. Now is the time to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), and to take all of the preparatory work you have done and to actualize it in a draft of your literature review. For this assignment, you will develop a Title page, Abstract, and a References page. Articulate your main research/focal question as the opening for your paper. Be sure it is specific, researchable, and important to the field. Then go on to list a detailed outline of the body of the paper, (including all headings and subheadings). Be sure to format your entire paper, including the headings and subheadings according to APA style.
LASA 2: Submitting Final Paper M5A1 Based on your review of the most recent, relevant research findings on your chosen topic, submit a final version of your literature review paper, integrating feedback received from your instructor. Be sure to include a research/focal question, synthesis of the literature you reviewed, well-established conclusions, and points of discussion and/or future research. Apply current APA standards for editorial style, expression of ideas, and formatting of the text, headings, citations, and references. You may want to study the style and formatting illustrated in the sample APA paper in the Doc Sharing area and model your paper after it. The following components, each in current APA style, must be included: 1. Title page 2. Running head with page numbers 3. Abstract 4. 8-10 pages in the body of the paper. Be sure to: a. Articulate a research question which is specific, researchable, and important to the field. b. Review at least 10 academic references. c. Offer a synthesis of the key points established in and through literature review. d. Provide well-established conclusions, and identify needed areas for future research. 5. Headings and subheadings organizing the body of the paper 6. References page Submit your final paper to the M5: Assignment 2 Dropbox by Saturday, August 16, 2014.
Reflection M5A2 This last assignment of the course provides you an opportunity to reflect upon your learning and expectations from this course.
Use the Discussion Area to discuss the following: • What did you learn about yourself through your time spent in the writing process? • What were the problems you faced and how did you deal with any related frustrations? • What did you learn about your strengths and weaknesses in researching, writing, and revising? • How did the conclusions you reached at the end of your research paper match the expectations you had when you began your research paper? Did any of the research findings surprise you or challenge the assumptions you had at the beginning of the research? • Given your experience in this course, you now understand better the scholarly requirements of a psychologist. In this context, explain the career direction you see yourself pursuing—researcher, clinician, educator, or something else. How has this course experience helped you to develop some goals? The post should be at least 100 words in length and should include all of the bulleted items listed above. Post your Reflection response to the Discussion Area by Sunday, August 17, 2014
Analysis of variance.
Arbitron Media Research Inc. conducted a study of the iPod listening habits of men and women. One facet of the study involved the mean listening time. It was discovered that the mean listening time for men was 27 minutes per day. The standard deviation of the sample of the 10 men studied was 12 minutes per day. The mean listening time for the 12 women studied was also 27 minutes, but the standard deviation of the sample was 13 minutes. At the .10 significance level, can we conclude that there is a difference in the variation in the listening times for men and women? (Round your answer to 3 decimal places.)

Frankenstein: the Alternative Ending
Frankenstein: The Alternative Ending I hastily fled to my newest place of work. I had inhabited the world with a second creation. This demon, though a woman, was more terrifying and hideous than the first. A monstrous creature created only for longing of a new beginning. A world where I would forget this horrible deed I had bestowed upon the universe. I had only promised my first creation a companion, not a family. His companion would never get the chance to conceive, for no more demons will wreak havoc upon mankind. I fled knowing the creature was close looking for what I had promised him. I searched the beaches on the island for a boat of some sort to take me far away. A sense of relief filled my body when I saw a fishing boat anchored a little ways ahead. I approached the boat and the fisherman agreed to take me to see Clerval, so that we may enjoy each other’s company. I had hoped Clerval’s cheerful attitude would rub off on me and I would forget the grotesque beasts I had created. Perhaps I would find peace and happiness with Elizabeth as my wife. I finally once again looked upon my old friend, Clerval, but his face was frowning. “This place of solitude has made you even more depressed than before.” His words haunted my mind as I remembered my horrific creations I had forgotten. I immediately fell ill at the thought of the terrible deed I had done. After weeks of pain, nightmares, and hallucinations, I was ready to return home to Geneva. Clerval, however, would not return with me, for he had wanted to set out to London. We said our farewells and wished each other good luck on our travels. Soon after I had arrived in Geneva, Elizabeth and I were married. With every day that passed, the image of my ghastly creations left my mind. A few months after joining in holy matrimony, Elizabeth became pregnant. I was so overjoyed I could taste pure happiness on my tongue. However, I was foolish to believe in such happiness, for what came next would haunt me
Input Tax
Problem: The owners of the Super Supermarket would like to have a program that computes the monthly gross pay of their employees as well as the employee’s net pay. The input for this program is an employee ID number, hourly rate of pay, and number of regular and overtime hours worked. Gross pay is the sum of the wages earned from regular hours and overtime hours; overtime is paid at 1.5 times the regular rate. Net pay is gross pay minus deductions. Wind Turbine Structure Analysis
A cantilevered steel pipe tower, 80 m tall is being considered for a new wind turbine. The weight of the turbine is 3,400 kN. The tower under consideration will have a constant outer diameter of 4 m and a wall thickness of 6 cm. The turbine is to have three blades. The nominal rotor speed is 12 rpm. Would the tower be considered stiff, soft or soft–soft? Suppose that a tapered tower is being considered instead. How would the natural frequency be analyzed? Assume that the weight density of steel is 76.8 kN/m^3 and its elasticity is 2.07 x 10^11 Pa.

Lindsay Bingham PHY101 €“ 18801 8/19/2013 Electrical Components and Circuits Purpose: The objective of this experiment was to analyze light and its relationship between energy and color of the light producing that energy. We also were in charge of measuring the rate at which evaporation occurs for rubbing alcohol depending on the different colored diodes. Materials:
- LEDs and circuits (from previous lab)
- Pipette (or eyedropper)
- Rubbing alcohol
- Index card
- 9-volt battery
- Flashlight
- Stopwatch
- Small cardboard shoe box Procedure: 1. Set up an Excel spreadsheet listing variables: evaporation time vs. frequency of LED. 2. Make a three-sided enclosure from the cardboard box. This creates a location for applying light from the LED to the drop of alcohol while minimizing the effect of air currents on the evaporation rate. 3. Use the eyedropper to place a single drop of isopropyl alcohol on an index card within the enclosure. Try to use the same size drop each time this step is repeated. 4. Measure the time it takes for the drop to evaporate (without the LED present). The dark spot on the card caused by the alcohol will no longer be visible. You may want to use a flashlight to help with this observation. Record the evaporation time in your Excel spreadsheet. 5. Repeat the same procedure holding different colored LEDs over the alcohol drop. The current through each LED should be the same, and the distance from the LED to the drop should also remain the same for each run. 6. Repeat this procedure for each color of LED at least 10 times and calculate an average time of evaporation for each color. 7. Plot a graph of evaporation time versus frequency of the LED. 8. Look up the frequency of the diode. 9. Discuss your results and make conclusions based on these results. Data:

Genetics
You study leucine biosynthesis in a strain of /Salmonella typhimurium/. You have identified four new leucine auxotrophic mutants in a mutagenesis screen. You label them /leuA/, /leuB/, /leuC/, and /leuD/.
Preliminary mapping of the mutant loci indicates that they all group to one side of the /ala3/ locus. As part of your research, you decide to map all four loci relative to the /ala3/ locus using bacteriophage cotransduction.
Part A – Calculating cotransduction frequencies To calculate cotransduction frequencies, you use bacteriophage to transduce DNA from wild-type donor bacteria to recipient bacteria of various genotypes. For each experiment, you select for recipient cells that are prototrophic for alanine by plating cells on a master plate containing minimal medium + leucine, which allows all /leu/ genotypes to grow. You then replica plate each master plate on minimal medium without leucine.
Use the data shown below to calculate the frequency at which each /leu/ locus cotransduces with /ala3/ ^+. Complete the table by dragging the correct label to the appropriate location. Labels may be used once, more than once, or not at all.
Part B – Rough mapping using cotransduction frequencies Using the cotransduction frequencies from Part A, create a rough map of the /leuA/, /leuB/, /leuC/, and /leuD/ loci relative to the /ala3/ locus. Place the four loci on the map by dragging the correct label to the appropriate location. Two loci map to approximately the same location, so use a label with both loci for that location. (Note: The map is not drawn to scale.)
Trends in Educational Action Research
Trends in Educational Action Research
Instructions: For this assignment, you will create a document that includes both the Early Action Research Plan and criteria for your area of focus. The plan you share is the same one posted in the Early Action Research Ideas discussion from this week. Please be sure to consider the feedback you received from peers and your instructor and make necessary changes before including this plan in your assignment submission. For the criteria part of the assignment, consider what you read in “Themes in Education: Action Research” and “Current Trends in Education.” What topics did you see and read about that lead you toward clarifying a general idea and establishing an area of focus for research? Please refer to the “Research in Action Checklist Three – One” (Mills, 2014, p. 44) to establish criteria for your area of focus. Note that writing in the first-person voice during the criteria section of this assignment is acceptable.
Content The assignment needs to include the following areas of content. Plan – Area of Focus (1 point): In no more than two paragraphs, describe your early idea of what the purpose of your study may be.
Plan – Explanation of Problem (1 point): In no more than two paragraphs, explain a statement of the problem or situation that led to this interest or why you want to pursue this topic.
Plan – Population (.5 point): In no more than a paragraph, describe the population (age/grade, quantity of participants, students or adults).
Plan – Population Choice (.5 point): In no more than a paragraph, explain why you have chosen your population for this study, including details about why this population is appropriate for this study.
Plan – Research Questions (1 point): Develop two to three research questions that align with the area of focus and address what you hope to answer in this study. The questions need to be answerable and presented in list format, and they must appropriately represent the population/participants you identified.
Idea – Teaching and Learning (.5 points): In at least one paragraph, evaluate whether your idea is an issue that involves teaching and learning. Use relevant literature to support the evaluation.
Idea – Locus of Control (.5 points): In at least one paragraph, evaluate whether your idea is within your locus of control.
Idea – Passion (.5 points): In at least one paragraph, describe whether your idea is something you feel passionate about and where this passion originates from for you (e.g., life experiences or professional practice).
Idea – Inspiration (.5 points): In at least one paragraph, describe how your idea inspires you to implement change or improvement. Written Communication The assignment needs to adhere to the following areas for written communication. Page Requirement (.5 points): The assignment must be two to three pages, not including title and references pages.
APA Formatting (.5 points): Use APA formatting consistently throughout.
Syntax and Mechanics (.5 points): Display meticulous comprehension and organization of syntax and mechanics, such as spelling and grammar. Your written work should contain no errors and be very easy to understand.
Source Requirement (.5 points): Use no less than two scholarly sources in addition to the course textbooks, providing compelling evidence to support ideas. All sources on the reference page need to be used and cited correctly within the body of the assignment.
Early action research ideals
Familiarize yourself with the nine steps that Mills (2014) presents in Chapter 3, pp. 69-70, in order to complete the first three steps of your Final Project, Action Research Plan. Follow the directions below as they differ from the steps on page 69.
At this point, you are presenting early ideas that are not concrete, as you have not conducted a review of literature yet. Therefore, your responses should be in outline form only. (You will make these three steps more concrete and formal in structure in Week Three). For now, you will briefly explain the problem or situation. Current Work Setting Describe your current professional setting, if applicable, whether you are working in a school setting, other educational setting, or organization not related to education.
Potential Population Effected Keeping the focus relatively small, describe whether the potential population of interest includes a group of students and what their grade or age level includes. If you currently work with adults in a non-educational setting, include who in your workplace is impacted. If you are currently unemployed, include who may benefit from a potential change or intervention (i.e. your child, a related child, an adult in the family, etc.). Avoid the use of specific names, rather describe the group or individuals who would be influenced or involved in the action research project.
Area of Focus Identify your early idea of what the purpose of your study may be.
Explanation of Problem Statement of problem or situation that led to this interest or why you want to pursue this topic, including trends in education or educational research.
Define Variables Describe the population (age/grade, quantity of participants, students/or adults). Briefly explain why you have chosen them.
Research question(s) What do you wonder? Consider your area of focus statement. What do you hope to answer?
lab report unit 4 for anatomy and physiology enzyme activity
This Assignment for this unit is a Lab that you will complete in WileyPLUS. You will be focusing on how enzymes work as biological catalysts. Enzymes are important because they increase the rate of chemical reactions. Specifically, this lab will show how temperature, pH, and substrate concentration affect sucrase activity. Sucrase is an enzyme that catalyzes sucrose, a disaccharide, into the simple monosaccharides of glucose and fructose. When your body has a fever, your temperature is elevated. Since enzymes work at a certain temperature (37o C), a fever throws off the optimal working conditions of enzymes and thus how your body functions. Learning how enzymes function will ultimately show you how your body functions properly and maintains homeostasis. You will also see that under certain conditions, such as a fever, your body fights to regain control and thus get back to its homeostatic state.
