In order to write your Essay for Week 4, listen to the iMusic selections in your Chapter 23 Learning Resources. (The content of the iMusic is also found on page 175 of your eBook.) As you listen to the five selections by Beethoven you will hear that they are obviously different – sonatas, symphony, and choral.
Read “Ludwig van Beethoven” pp 174-175 and the HTTN on page 181, “Beethoven and the Politics of Music”.
Then address the following question in your essay: What qualities do these selections possess that makes them so popular today, whose themes are even found in movies, advertisements, and (as in the Ode to Joy) celebrations of historic significance?
